Christina Richardson is an award-winning director and filmmaker based in New York City, originally from Los Angeles, California. A graduate of Benedict College, an HBCU in Columbia, South Carolina, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communication. Christina's passion for directing ignited at the age of 12 during her first acting role in a McDonald's commercial.

Anxiously awaiting her turn on set, the director invited her to sit in the director's chair and explained everything happening behind the scenes. Witnessing the magic of filmmaking—like shooting night for day—left her in awe. From that moment, she knew she was meant to pursue directing.

Starting her career as a child actress, she evolved into a DGA-qualified First Assistant Director, working with major brands like Walmart, McDonald's, FX, and Audible. She collaborated with top-tier production companies such as VaynerMedia, O-Positive, and Warner Brothers. While she loved ADing, Christina realized she had reached a point where she needed to choose between assisting and directing, as each required a different mindset.

Following her heart, she transitioned to full-time directing in 2021.Since then, Christina has directed a wide array of narrative and branded content for clients including Facebook/Meta, UnitedMasters, Ghetto Gastro, Atlantic Records, Glade, and Huggies.

She is particularly proud of her recent project for Huggies' New Skin Essentials Line—the "It Takes a Village" campaign—a three-part digital series highlighting new motherhood and the beauty of community. Her writing credits include notable short films such as Meek Mill’s Wins & Losses, Future’s Feds Did a Sweep, and other projects that brought a resurgence to storytelling in music videos.

Known as an actors' director, she excels at communicating with talent, giving them freedom, and collaborating throughout the storytelling process.Christina is driven by her passion for creating content that makes people feel something. She aims to show audiences things they've never seen before, creating a connective tissue between cultures and diversifying the world. Her work is purposeful—meant to shift narratives, open minds, create empathy, and truly connect people to each other.

Philanthropy

From the moment I sat in the director’s chair on the set of my first McDonald’s commercial as a child actor, I knew filmmaking was my calling. Watching the director bring a scene to life, explaining the magic behind shooting night for day, was a pivotal moment that opened my eyes to the possibilities behind the camera. That experience lit a fire in me, driving me to pursue a career in film, from acting to editing, to becoming a director.

As I progressed in my career, I realized how few opportunities existed for young creatives of color to break into the industry, especially in underrepresented communities like the Bronx. That realization led me to create The Bronx Film Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to exposing young minority creatives to the possibilities in film and TV. My goal is to provide the same spark of inspiration I had on that McDonald’s set, offering them not just a glimpse of the industry, but real opportunities to learn, grow, and build careers.
